Beat the winter funk with these simple winter productivity tips…
Winter can be difficult on everyone, no matter where you live… well, except for Florida, which stays in the ’90s 24/7. Scratch that, the one year I lived there it dropped down to the 50’s and all hell broke loose!
I’m not sure if it’s the weather or the combination of the extra stress of the holidays, but winter can make it difficult to stay on task. I find myself wanting to sleep in more or cozy up on the couch watching Romantic Christmas movies.
I’m not sure about you, but as a Work at Home Mom, I need to stay productive and motivated to complete client’s work. I can’t cozy up on the couch during the freezing winter months!

5 Simple Winter Productivity Tips
Tip #1 Wake Up Earlier
This one is a difficult one for me but when I do wake up earlier I feel much better. Let me explain… I feel better because I don’t have to rush and make coffee and get everyone ready. It’s stressful trying to get everyone ready before I head out the door to take our oldest to the bus stop.
Waking up earlier also allows time for me to eat a good hearty breakfast before I have to take our youngest son to his many therapy appointments. I pack up my laptop and headphones and get to work while he’s busy learning.
Once all of the work is completed, I can get home and work out, run errands, straighten up the house, etc.

Tip #2 Have a To-Do List
I use to hate to-do lists with a passion. I was more of a go with the flow kind of person. However, now that I have two rambunctious boys, a growing business, a blog, and many other things… I can’t be go with the flow Jennifer.
If I don’t write up my to-do’s on my Trello board, I’ll forget to do it. My Trello board consists of new pin scheduling, Virtual Assistant tasks, blog posts, etc. When I wasn’t keeping up my to-do list, I was more sporadic with creating blog content and scheduling new pins for my blog.
… Don’t like creating to-do lists on the computer? That’s okay too! My great friend Lana from Lana Pummill (that’s me!) loves to write everything down the good old fashion way – pen and paper!

Tip #3 Get Moving
Movement is essential. Get off your rump and get out there. I’ve become very stiff and tight from lack of movement, and I’m regretting it dearly. I’ve started to incorporate 30-minute workouts and stretching to limber myself.
You can take a quick walk around the neighborhood or put on Yoga with Adrienne on your fire-stick. Just a quick 20-minute session will get your juices flowing and energized to tackle more work.
I know it can be a tad bit cold to walk for some, grab your sneakers and workout gear, and head to your local YMCA or mall. You can window shop and get in your steps at the same time, or walk on the treadmill at the gym!
Other movement ideas:
- Get up to grab a snack
- Checking the mail
- Play with your pet
- Do some jumping jacks in place

Tip #4 Take Care of Yourself
Self-care during these cold and muggy months is critical. Getting cozy on the couch with a good cup of coffee isn’t what I’m talking about. I’m talking about real self-care.
The one where you pamper yourself with a DIY spa, reading a good book, or meditating. Something other than binge-watching TV shows.
As a mom to a child with an auditory processing disorder and another child with DYRK1A syndrome, I understand how easy it is to put yourself on the back-burner. I’ve been there, and it’s rough. But please don’t forget to take care of yourself. How do you expect to be productive when your glass is empty?

Tip #5 Drink All the Coffee
A good cup of Joe is definitely a must with this mama. The first thing I do when I get up and wake the boys is making a pot of coffee. I enjoy the winter flavors like Pumpkin and Peppermint during the cold and dreary months.
Generally, a good cup of medium roast, pumpkin spice creamer, and a teaspoon of sugar will do the deed. If you’re looking for something with a little more “oomph,” you’ll have to look at my friend’s favorite: Death Wish Coffee.
… Not a coffee drinker? That’s okay! You can still find caffeine in beverages like tea. My favorite tea is Earl Grey, and I love pairing it with a splash of lemon and half and half.

My Final Thoughts
I totally understand how easy it is to want to curl up in a ball on the couch while watching Netflix! I’ve been there, mama! You don’t have to do all of these at once. Take it day by day! Set a goal and reward yourself when you’ve completed a productivity step.
How do you continue to stay motivated and productive during the winter months? I’d love to know! Might even include it in my productivity how-to.
