Take Yourself to the Movies
Matinee! If you are cheap like me, matinee is the way to go! Why pay close to $20.00? Save that extra moolah for your Twizzlers and popcorn! Matinees are cheap and usually not overly busy, which means you get your pick of seats.
Attend a Workshop or Event
Find a fun workshop or event in your town. For example, Wine & Canvas. All you have to do for Wine & Canvas is show up. They supply all the art supplies, wine, and food. Find something you enjoy or find something new.
Go for a Drive
Pick out the perfect playlist or turn up your favorite radio station, roll down your windows, and hit the road.
Community Education Class
Have you ever wanted to take an art class, cooking class, or a belly dancing class? If so, why not take one now? Find something that you have always wanted to learn about and take a class on it.
Museum or Art Gallery
Museums and art galleries can be therapeutic and inspirational. I love attending museums and art galleries with my family. However, going alone definitely has its advantages. I am able to really take my time and not worry about my children breaking some priceless artifact.
As a writer, a coffee shop solo date is one of my favorites. I like to grab my laptop, head to a local coffee shop, and write without any interruptions, other than maybe an occasional refill.
Sometimes it can be nice to take a trip down memory lane. Search YouTube for favorite childhood cartoons or music. You could also take the time to watch old VHS tapes or flip through your yearbooks.
I love getting to stay a night in a hotel alone. Have some pizza delivered, take a nice long bubble bath, enjoy a glass of wine, and watch WHATEVER YOU WANT on TV. Moms know how rare it is to get to sit and watch an entire episode of something that you have chosen.
Binge some Netflix! Take this time to get caught up on some of your guilty pleasures. This is when I watch my reality shows, which my husband despises.
Spread Love and Kindness
Make a list of self-gratifying activities and start marking them off monthly. Here are some examples:
- Volunteer Work
- Soup Kitchen
- Donate clothes/toys/etc…
- Buy groceries for a stranger
There is nothing like the feeling you get when you give back.
Take yourself out to eat at your favorite restaurant. Order your favorite drink, appetizer, entree, and dessert. If you aren’t sure about eating out alone, take a good book and read while you eat.
Pick a town close to you and spend the day touring and doing things you enjoy. Explore all the shops, buy coffee at the local coffee shop, and have lunch at a yummy hole in the wall diner. Solo day trips can be a lot of fun during the holiday season. I love checking out all the stores and looking at all the Fall and Christmas decorations.
I love a good spa date with my girls, but it can be nice to have a mani/pedi on my own too. Sometimes it can be fun to go on your own and not have to carry on a conversation. It can be so relaxing and rejuvenating.
Check out your local gym and see what classes they offer. Maybe they have a yoga class, spin class, or aerobics class. Exercise helps alleviate stress. If you don’t feel like hitting the gym, YouTube is full of some great yoga and exercise videos that you can do in the comfort of your own living room.
If you live where you have some good prime places for hiking, I would utilize them. It can be so relaxing and being outside is always a good place to think.
Day Off Date
Take a day off and clear your schedule. Just relax and be present with yourself for a day. No rushing or worrying about completing your to-do list. I know that this isn’t easy for moms. However, maybe you could carve out an afternoon or even a couple of hours once a month to take some time off and be YOU.
Mark Something Off Your Bucketlist

Have a cheat date where you can splurge on your cravings. Go to your favorite bakery and buy yourself your favorite sweet indulgent. Mine would be homemade, soft sugar cookies with homemade buttercream icing. Frosted sugar cookies are my favorite things to eat during the Christmas holiday season.
Get that dress you have been had your eye on for months or try out a new haircut. It can be refreshing and a good self-esteem boost when you change up your look from time to time and it doesn’t have to be big major changes.
Do you love playing games? I absolutely enjoy playing anything Mario. I have enjoyed Mario since the original Nintendo came out when I was a kid. Take some time to play video games or computer games of your choosing, if you are a gamer.
Have a picnic in the park date. Pack your favorite lunch and/or snacks, a big blanket, and a book.
