Being a mom is hard work, to say the least. As a mom, I often put my needs on hold. Honestly, I think most moms do. However, it is important to remember that we can’t take care of the ones we love if we don’t take the time to recharge our batteries. I know that I am not the only mom to find this difficult, at times. Here is my self-love and care kit for moms.

Get Moving
Exercising is key to our health (mind and body). You can find many creative ways to get your body moving. For me, I like playing with my boys. We love to have dance parties in the kitchen, exercise together using free youtube videos, and playing outside on our trampoline. My boys love asking Alexa to play “dance songs” and then we break out into a dance party. However, I will be honest. I was less enthused when my 3-year-old learned to tell Alexa to play “baby shark.” I can only listen to that song so many times.
I also love to do yoga and have found a couple of yoga channels on youtube that I really love. Here are some different ways to get moving:
- Outdoor yoga classes
- Spin classes
- Rollerblading
- In-door rockclimbing
- Dance classes
- Walking with family or friends
Anything you can do to get yourself moving. Since I am a stay at home mom, I try to find activities that I can do with my boys. It gets them to moving and it is something we can do together that is fun (and healthy!)

Brain Boost
As a mom, I know how easy it can be to lose yourself in day-to-day life amidst being a taxi driver, washing clothes, cooking dinner, paying bills, cleaning the house, etc…to name just a few. This is why it is so important to find ways to boost your brain and stay connected to who you are, outside of being a wife and mother. Ways that I use to stay connected include, reading, writing in my journal, working on this blog, or yoga. Here are some ways to stay connected and give your brain a boost:
- Journaling
- Quiet Time
- Reading
- Meditation
- Yoga
- Draw
- Paint
- Pursue your passions
Find whatever keeps you centered and helps you come back to yourself and remember who you are.
Pamper Yourself
It is very important to take some time to relax your body, mind, and spirit. You need to take a minute to just breathe and not carry the burden of everyday life, for just a few minutes. For me, I love to get manicures and pedicures, which I don’t do often. I do try to have “beauty” day at least once every month or two. However, bubble baths are weekly. Here are some ways for you to pamper yourself:
- Spa Day
- Manicures and Pedicures
- Bubble Baths
- Nap
- Splurge on something you love
- Facial
- Get a new haircut
Remember this is all about you so find something that makes you feel relaxed and beautiful.

Stay Connected
It is extremely important to stay connected to the people that knew you before you became a mom or a wife. Keeping your connections with your fellow adults, especially your spouse, is just as important as staying connected to yourself. They can help keep you centered and give you a breath of fresh air. It is also important to have mom friends that remind you that you aren’t alone.
I try to make date nights with my husband a regular thing. We try for a date night every two weeks. Playdates with my mom friends are important for me too. I meet up with a few friends and their kids and we eat and let the kids play. The kids get to run off some energy and I get to have an ADULT CONVERSATION!! Here are some ways you can stay connected with your fellow adults:
- Date Night
- Playdates
- Girls Nights
- Regular phone calls to connect with friends and family
Do Something “Crazy”
There is nothing more exhilarating than doing something “crazy” or out of the ordinary. When you are a parent, your day to day life can start to feel monotonous. Why not break that monotony up with a little “craziness?” I don’t mean go get yourself hurt, but do something that makes you feel alive. Recently, I got the chance to ride in a helicopter. It was so exciting! Riding a helicopter was on my bucket list for years and I was so happy to be able to mark it off. Here are some “crazy” ideas for you too:
- Mark something off your bucket list
- Go-cart Racing
- Start something new
- Take a cooking class
In closing, remember you are worthy, Mama. Take the time to refill your cup. You can not give to your loved ones with an empty cup. Below is a printable that is full of ideas on how to recharge and show yourself some self-love and care. Print it out. Put it on your bathroom mirror. Place it on your refrigerator. Put it somewhere to help remind yourself that you are needed beyond words.
Do you have any recommendations for self-love and care for moms? What is something that you love to do that helps you refill your cup? I would love to read about them in the comments.

“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
This is a great assortment of ideas. Thank you for the great list of self care ideas.
Thank you. I am so glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
Yes! My two most important things are to get moving and pamper myself…even if it just a 5-minute mask while giving my son a bath.
Yes! It is so important and yet, I think we tend to forget it.
